Have you noticed that some characters seem to have their own flower connection? Give an example that includes a character, the character's flower, and what the flower may symbolize or convey about the character. Support your ideas with passages and page numbers from the book.

Charles Baker “Dill” Harris to me resembles a bramhakamal. A bramhakamal only blooms once a year at night and this reminds me of how Dill only comes during the summer. Scout cant wait for Dill to come just like we cant wait for the bramhakamal to bloom. Scout said, "With him, life was routine; without him, life was unbearable." (116).
Scout reminds me of a pink rose which means appreciation and thankfulness. When Boo Radley comes to help Jem and Scout when they are attacked by Bob Ewell.
Miss Maudie has a connecion to her azaleas. This flower is a symbolisn of some of her characteristics such as womanhood and passion. She seemsto be very lady-like and is very passionate, especially when it comes to nature because "she loved everything that grew in God's earth" (42).
Mrs Dubose and her camiella flowers are definatly connected. They are onnected throught their addictions. She is addicted to morphine which is ultimatly her don fall. The flowers are addicted to her love and attention so when she dies the flowers do. So one could say that the flowers themselves were addicted to morphine. She was a beautiful lady just like her flowers. She just went down the path of addiction.
Mrs. Dubose is a ruin Camellia. She became an old bitter woman once she became ill. but she was thoughtful when she wanted to be. She didn't care what people thought about her. (111)
Mrs. Dubose gives Jem a camellia. Well, the te camellia symbolizes gratitude, nobility of reasoning and good luck to a man. He reads to Mrs. Dubose as his punihment and after she dies he receives a camellia from her..
Mrs. Dubose gave Jem a camellia flower, which is the type of flower that he tore apart in her yard. The flower survived Jem's attack and represents strength. Atticus comforts Jem after he opens the box by saying "I think that was her way of telling you -- everything's all right now." (pg 112)
Mrs. Maudie has a great passion for her azaleas. Azeleas mean passion, womanhood, take care of yourself. Mrs. Maudie is a very kind woman and is very mannerly and lady-like.
Mrs. Dubose is very close with her camellias. Camellias stand for "nobility of reasoning" and longing for a man around. Only a very few selection of people come over to see Mrs. Dubose. She enjoys mean. She enjoyed Jem reading to her. The colors have meanings to them. She always wanted her camellias to look nice, and they were white. At the end, after she died, she had a white camellia in a box for Jem. White camellias stand for lovliness and perfectionist. Jem came over everyday and read to her and took care of all of her flowers.
Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose seems to resemble a withering camellia; She's battling an addiction and the addiction has destroyed her, and continues to destroy her. In Chapter 11 (99) Scout explains why her and Jem hate her. "Easy does it, son," Atticus would say. "She's an old lady and she's ill." (100) Jem destorys Mrs. Dubose's flower patch, which can be connected to the death of Mrs. Dubose.
Arrgggg... When it comes to the characters of the book and the flowers that relate to them. I think Miss. Maudie is compared to azaleas being that she is an inspriaition of life being happy and beautiful. Also i believe Mrs Dubose and her camiella flowers are very much related by, her need to fuel her addiction to drugs are similar to that of the camiellas need of her love to survive.
Miss Maudie has a flower bed that includes azaleas. She is a kind person who is strong minded and doesn't take stuff from the other neighbors. She can diffuse a situation and sees the good in some people, like Atticus and she can explain things to Scout and Jem to help them understand. Azaleas also mean abundance and Miss Maudie nevers seems to run out of wisdom and kindness toward to Jem and Scout. In chapter 5, it's revealed that Miss Maudie allows Jem,Dill and Scout over for cake and other things, which showcases how good of a person she is.
" mayella looked as if she tried to keep clean, and I was reminded of the row of geraniums in the Ewell yard." ch. 18, pg 179. One of the meanings to this flower is stupidity. This could relate to Mayella because of the lack of education that she has.
Dill Harris resembles a yellow rose. When Jem tells Atticus about Dill running away, Scout and Dill feel betrayed. I think this shows friendship between Dill and Scout.
Miss Maudie Atkinson is a lot like the azaleas growing in her garden. She isn't very fond of her house, thus spending most of her time outside in the garden. The garden is her place to shine, and partly her family. With her being a widow, these flowers are her pride and joy rather than her family. An azalea only blooms for a short period of time. Miss Maudie is the same. "a chameleon lady who worked in her flower beds in an old straw hat and men's coveralls, but after five o' clock bath she would appear on the porch and reign over the street in magisterial beauty" They each "bloom" at a specific time, but after that they change to something more bland.
Mrs. Dubose is like her camellia in how they where killed and soon after she also died. On page 100 Jem ruins her flowers.
Miss Maudie and her azaleas are connected in the way that she is able to take care of herself without the help from anyone. She also doesn't show much emotion about something. Scout thought that it was strange the way Miss Maudie was acting."With most of her possessions gone and her beloved yard a shambles, she still took a lively and cordial interest in Jem's and my affairs"(73).
Mrs. Dubose is like her camellias. She was suffering an addiction on morphen like her camellias were addicted to her love. On page 100 Jem ruins her flowers, and soon after she had died.
Jem recieved a camellia flower from Mrs.Dubose. this was the flower that outlasted Jems attack that day he tore up her flower bed. the flower represents strength.
Mrs. Dubose is loves her camellias, and this shows passion just like her flowers resemble passion
The camellias are a lot similar to Mrs. Dubose. Her addiction to morphine resembles her flowers getting ruined by Jem. Both of those events were out of her control but she still stood strong to carry through them. "He did not begin to calm down untill he had cut the top off every camellia bush Mrs. Dubose owned, untill the ground was littered with green buds and leaves." There was nothing she could do about it, just the same as her morphine addiction.
Miss. Maudie is asscoiated with the azaleas, which are the flowers of the astronomical sign Sagittarius.Sagittarius is a positive sign. Hence, she is positive.Mrs.Dubose is connected with her camellias. She gave Jem a whiten camellia (white azalea means perfection) which showed how Jem helped her perfect her flowers and her reading.
In the story you can compare characters to their flowers. Mrs. Dubose can be caopared to her camellia. She didn't die without a fight. The other character tha ca be compared to her flowers is Miss Maudie. She is lively and beautiful like her azaleas.
